Marinade:
- 1/3 cup olive oil
- 1/3 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup red wine vinegar
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 4 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
- 2–2.5 pounds tri tip roast
Instructions
- Mix Marinade: In a medium bowl or large zip-top bag, combine olive oil, soy sauce, red wine vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, brown sugar, garlic, Dijon mustard, black pepper, smoked paprika, onion powder, and red pepper flakes. Coat tri tip in the marinade.
- Marinate: Seal and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight for best flavor.
- Prep Grill: Preheat grill to medium-high heat.
- Grill Tri Tip: Cook for 5–6 minutes per side to sear, then reduce heat to medium or indirect heat. Total cooking time is about 20–25 minutes for medium-rare.
- Rest and Slice: Let the tri tip rest for 10 minutes before slicing against the grain.
Notes
- This marinade also complements flank or skirt steak.
- For oven roasting, sear the marinated tri tip and roast at 400°F.
