Description

These Thai Chicken Lettuce Wraps are a flavorful, healthy appetizer featuring ground chicken cooked with a savory blend of hoisin, soy, and fish sauces, accented by fresh herbs and crunchy peanuts, all wrapped in crisp butter lettuce leaves. Perfect for a light meal or party snack, they combine a delightful balance of sweet, salty, and spicy flavors with a fresh, crunchy texture.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken Mixture

  • 1 lb ground chicken
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 1 red bell pepper, diced
  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

Garnishes & Wraps

  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 1/4 cup chopped peanuts
  • 1 head butter lettuce or Bibb lettuce, leaves separated and rinsed

Instructions

  1. Brown the chicken: Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground chicken and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Sauté vegetables: Add minced garlic, diced onion, and red bell pepper to the skillet. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are softened and fragrant.
  3. Add sauces and seasonings: Stir in hoisin sauce, soy sauce, fish sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and crushed red pepper flakes. Let the mixture simmer for 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and the sauce to slightly thicken.
  4. Mix in fresh herbs: Remove the skillet from heat and stir in chopped fresh cilantro and sliced green onions for a fresh burst of flavor.
  5. Assemble wraps: Spoon the chicken mixture into individual butter lettuce leaves. Top each wrap with chopped peanuts for added crunch.
  6. Serve immediately: Serve the lettuce wraps fresh for the best texture and taste.

Notes

  • For a low-sodium version, use low-sodium soy sauce and omit the fish sauce.
  • You can substitute ground turkey or tofu for chicken to suit dietary preferences or restrictions.
  • Ensure to use gluten-free hoisin and soy sauce to keep the dish gluten-free.
  • These wraps are best enjoyed immediately to maintain the crispness of the lettuce.
