Ingredients

Scale

Protein & Vegetables

  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Sauce

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon grated ginger
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Cooking & Garnish

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cups cooked rice
  • 1/4 cup sliced green onions
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Heat the skillet: Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the olive oil.
  2. Sauté onions: Once the oil is hot, add the diced onion to the skillet and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until softened and translucent.
  3. Add garlic: Add the minced garlic to the skillet and cook for another 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Cook the turkey: Add the ground turkey to the skillet, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks. Stir occasionally and cook until the turkey is fully browned and no longer pink, about 6-7 minutes.
  5. Prepare sauce mix: While the turkey cooks, whisk together soy sauce, water, brown sugar, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and grated ginger in a small bowl.
  6. Make cornstarch slurry: In a separate small bowl, mix cornstarch with cold water until dissolved to create a slurry.
  7. Add sauce to turkey: Pour the soy sauce mixture over the cooked turkey and stir to combine.
  8. Simmer sauce: Bring the sauce to a simmer and cook for 2-3 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
  9. Thicken sauce: Stir in the cornstarch slurry and continue simmering for 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens to desired consistency.
  10. Add heat (optional): Sprinkle in red pepper flakes if using, and stir to combine adjusting spiciness to preference.
  11. Serve: Divide the teriyaki ground turkey over cooked rice into bowls.
  12. Garnish: Top each bowl with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.
  13. Enjoy: Serve immediately while hot and enjoy your Teriyaki Ground Turkey Bowl!

Notes

  • For a lower sodium version, use low-sodium soy sauce.
  • Ground chicken or pork can be substituted for ground turkey.
  • Add steamed or stir-fried vegetables like broccoli, bell peppers, or snap peas to increase veggie intake.
  • Adjust sweetness or tanginess by modifying brown sugar and rice vinegar quantities to your taste.
  • Serve with cauliflower rice for a low-carb alternative.
