Description

This delicious Taco Pie combines seasoned ground beef, melty cheeses, and a crispy pie crust baked to golden perfection. It’s a comforting Tex-Mex main course perfect for family dinners, featuring layers of salsa, tortilla chips, and savory toppings for a flavorful twist on traditional tacos.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Pie

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning mix
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 refrigerated pie crust (or homemade)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1/2 cup salsa

Toppings

  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives (optional)
  • 1/2 cup crushed tortilla chips

Others

  • Nonstick cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Prepare Oven and Pie Dish. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Spray a 9-inch pie dish with nonstick cooking spray and firmly press the pie crust into the bottom and sides to form the base.
  2. Cook Ground Beef. In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked. Drain any excess fat to keep the pie from being greasy.
  3. Add Seasoning. Stir in the taco seasoning mix along with 1/2 cup water. Simmer the mixture for 5 minutes until thickened and well combined.
  4. Assemble the Pie. Spread the seasoned beef mixture evenly into the prepared pie crust. Spoon 1/2 cup of salsa over the beef layer, then sprinkle the cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses on top to cover.
  5. Bake. Place the pie dish in the oven and bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and melted to perfection.
  6. Rest and Garnish. Remove the pie from the oven and allow it to rest for 5 minutes to set. Top with dollops of sour cream, chopped green onions, sliced black olives if using, and crushed tortilla chips for added crunch before serving.

Notes

  • Substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner protein option.
  • Add diced jalapeños or chopped bell peppers into the beef mixture for extra flavor and spice.
  • Pairs deliciously with a simple green salad or flavorful Mexican rice on the side.
