Description

A simple and flavorful sautéed cabbage recipe combining tender green cabbage, sweet onions, garlic, and smoky paprika. This quick and easy dish makes a perfect side, bringing out rich, savory flavors with minimal ingredients and effort.

Ingredients

Scale

Vegetables

  • 1 medium head green cabbage, cored and sliced into thin strips
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Fats & Seasonings

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prep the vegetables: Slice the cabbage thinly after removing the core, and chop the onion into small pieces for even cooking.
  2. Heat fat and sauté onion: Add butter and olive oil to a skillet over medium-high heat. Once melted and hot, sauté the onion for about 3 minutes until softened and fragrant.
  3. Cook the cabbage: Add the sliced cabbage to the skillet. Use two spoons or tongs to toss and stir frequently, allowing the cabbage to cook down and become tender, about 10-15 minutes. Adjust heat as necessary to prevent burning.
  4. Add flavors: Stir in the minced garlic and smoked paprika. Continue cooking for 2-3 minutes to meld flavors, reducing heat if the cabbage begins to brown too quickly. Some browning is desirable for extra flavor.
  5. Season and serve: Taste and season with salt and pepper as needed. Serve the sautéed cabbage immediately while warm.

Notes

  • Use fresh green cabbage for best texture and flavor.
  • Adjust cooking time for cabbage tenderness preferred—less time for crisper texture, longer for softer.
  • Smoked paprika adds a nice depth; regular paprika can be substituted if needed.
  • Butter and olive oil combination helps in flavor and prevents burning.
  • Serve as a side dish for meats, grains, or enjoy as a vegetarian main.
