Ingredients
Scale
Beef Patties
- 2 pounds lean ground beef
- 3/4 cup dry bread crumbs
- 1 large egg
- Splash Worcestershire sauce
- Pepper to taste
- 1/4 cup cream of mushroom soup (from the 10-1/2 oz. can)
- 1 small onion, diced
Mushroom Gravy
- 1 can cream of mushroom soup (remaining from the 10-1/2 oz. can)
- 1 can beef broth (14-1/2 oz.)
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1/4 cup water
- 4 ounces sliced baby bella mushrooms
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a large baking dish or roasting pan with cooking spray to prevent sticking and set it aside for later use.
- Make and Shape Patties: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, dry bread crumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, 1/4 cup of the cream of mushroom soup, and diced onion. Mix thoroughly to incorporate all ingredients evenly. Shape the mixture into 8 oval-shaped patties, then place them in the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle pepper over the patties to taste and bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes.
- Prepare Mushroom Gravy: While the patties bake, pour the remaining cream of mushroom soup and beef broth into a medium saucepan and heat on medium until hot. In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch and water until smooth and then slowly whisk into the hot soup mixture. Stir continuously with a wire whisk and bring the gravy to a boil for about 2 minutes or until it thickens slightly. Season the gravy with salt and pepper if desired. Pour this gravy over the partially baked beef patties in the pan, then top with the sliced baby bella mushrooms.
- Finish Baking: Return the baking dish to the oven and continue to bake the patties for an additional 10 to 15 minutes or until the beef is cooked thoroughly and reaches a safe internal temperature.
- Serve: Serve the Salisbury steaks hot, ideally accompanied by mashed potatoes and your favorite vegetables for a complete, comforting meal.
Notes
- For a lower-fat option, use lean or extra-lean ground beef.
- You can substitute baby bella mushrooms with white button mushrooms if desired.
- Make sure the patties reach an internal temperature of 160°F to ensure beef is fully cooked.
- Leftover patties and gravy can be refrigerated for up to 3 days.
- Adding a splash of Worcestershire sauce adds depth to the beef mixture.
