Batter Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar (divided)
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Peach Topping
- 4 cups fresh or canned sliced peaches (drained if canned)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar (remaining from the 1 cup)
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Optional
- Vanilla ice cream for serving
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Melt Butter: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the butter in a 9×13-inch baking dish and put it in the oven to melt, preparing the base for the batter.
- Mix Dry Ingredients for Batter: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, 3/4 cup of the sugar, baking powder, and salt to ensure even distribution of leavening and sweetness.
- Add Wet Ingredients to Batter: Stir in the whole milk and vanilla extract until the batter is smooth and well combined.
- Pour Batter Over Melted Butter: Once the butter has completely melted in the baking dish, carefully pour the batter evenly over the hot butter without stirring to allow the butter to infuse the batter as it bakes.
- Prepare Peach Mixture: In a separate bowl, gently mix the sliced peaches with the remaining 1/4 cup sugar, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg to coat them evenly.
- Assemble Cobbler: Spoon the prepared peach mixture evenly over the batter in the baking dish, again without stirring, to create a marbled effect as it bakes.
- Bake: Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the batter has risen around the peaches.
- Serve: Serve the peach cobbler warm, optionally topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for extra indulgence.
Notes
- You can use frozen peaches—just thaw and drain them before using.
- For a deeper, nuttier flavor, brown the butter before adding it to the batter.
- Adjust the sugar amount based on the natural sweetness of your peaches.
