Description

These homemade McGriddle Muffins are a delicious breakfast treat combining fluffy maple-flavored batter with savory sausage, melted American cheese, and scrambled eggs. Perfect for a quick, grab-and-go meal, these baked muffins mimic the classic McGriddle sandwich with a homemade touch and wholesome ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale

Muffin Batter

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup

Fillings & Others

  • 4 cooked breakfast sausage patties
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • 2 large eggs (for cooking and layering)
  • Non-stick spray or butter for greasing muffin tin

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a muffin tin with non-stick spray or butter to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt to evenly distribute the leavening agents and sugar.
  3. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk the buttermilk, one large egg, melted butter, vanilla extract, and maple syrup until smooth and fully combined to create a sweet and moist batter.
  4. Combine Batter: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently stir until just combined, taking care not to overmix to keep the muffins tender.
  5. Layer Batter and Fillings: Spoon about 1 tablespoon of batter into the bottom of each muffin cup. Press one cooked sausage patty into the center of each portion of batter. Top each sausage with a small square of American cheese and a spoonful of cooked scrambled eggs.
  6. Seal the Muffins: Cover the fillings with another tablespoon of batter to completely enclose the sausage, cheese, and egg inside the muffin shell.
  7. Bake: Place the muffin tin in the preheated oven and bake for 15 to 18 minutes, or until the muffins are golden brown and cooked through. They should be set and spring back slightly when touched.
  8. Cool and Serve: Allow the muffins to cool for a few minutes before gently removing them from the tin. Serve warm for a delicious and filling breakfast.

Notes

  • Using pre-cooked sausage patties and pre-scrambled eggs can save preparation time.
  • Add a few extra drops of maple syrup into the batter if you prefer a sweeter muffin.
  • These muffins freeze well and can be reheated quickly in the microwave for a convenient breakfast option.
  • Ensure not to overfill the muffin cups to prevent overflow during baking.
