Ingredients
Scale
Oatmeal Base
- 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
- 2 cups water or milk (or a mix of both)
- ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
- pinch of salt
Sweeteners
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
Finishing Touches
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter (optional)
- ¼ cup milk or cream (for serving)
- Optional toppings: chopped nuts, fresh fruit, or more maple syrup
Instructions
- Boil Liquid: In a medium saucepan, bring the water or milk to a gentle boil to prepare the cooking base for the oats.
- Add Oats and Simmer: Stir in the oats, reduce the heat to low, and let them simmer for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally until tender and creamy in texture.
- Add Sweeteners and Spices: Stir in the brown sugar, maple syrup, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt; cook for another 1–2 minutes to meld the flavors together.
- Finish with Butter: Remove from heat and stir in unsalted butter if using, to add richness to the oatmeal.
- Serve: Spoon the oatmeal into bowls and drizzle with milk or cream. Add your choice of optional toppings such as chopped nuts, fresh fruit, or extra maple syrup and serve warm.
Notes
- Use less liquid for thicker oatmeal or replace water with all milk or cream for a creamier texture.
- Steel-cut oats can be used as a substitute but will require a longer cooking time.
