Cheese Mixture
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Breading Station
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs (beaten)
- 1 cup seasoned breadcrumbs
Frying
- Vegetable oil (for frying)
Garnish & Serving
- Chopped parsley (for garnish)
- Marinara sauce (for dipping)
Instructions
- Prepare the Cheese Mixture: In a medium bowl, combine shredded mozzarella, grated Parmesan, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, crushed red pepper flakes (if using), and black pepper. Mix well until evenly distributed.
- Form Cheese Balls: Using your hands, shape the cheese mixture into small 1-inch balls and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Freeze for 20–30 minutes to help them hold their shape during frying.
- Set Up Breading Station: Arrange three shallow bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with seasoned breadcrumbs.
- Bread the Cheese Balls: Dip each frozen cheese ball first into flour, then into the beaten eggs, and finally coat thoroughly with breadcrumbs. Ensure each ball is fully covered for a crispy crust.
- Heat Oil: Pour about 2 inches of vegetable oil into a deep skillet or pot and heat over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the Cheese Bites: In batches, carefully fry the breaded cheese balls for 2–3 minutes or until they turn golden brown and crispy. Avoid overcrowding the pan to maintain oil temperature.
- Drain Excess Oil: Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried bites and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
- Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle with chopped parsley and serve hot with warm marinara sauce for dipping.
Notes
- For make-ahead convenience, freeze the breaded bites and fry them straight from frozen, adding 1–2 minutes to the frying time.
- Alternatively, air fry the bites at 375°F for 7–9 minutes, flipping halfway through for a healthier option.
