Ingredients
Scale
Espresso
- 1-2 ounces espresso (or strong brewed coffee)
Dairy
- 7 ounces half & half (or heavy cream for an ultra-rich option)
Flavorings and Toppings
- Flavored syrups (optional, such as vanilla or hazelnut)
- Ground cinnamon or cocoa powder (for garnish)
Instructions
- Warm the Mug: Fill your serving mug with hot water and let it sit for a minute or two to warm the mug, then carefully discard the water and set the mug aside.
- Brew the Espresso: Prepare 1 to 2 ounces of espresso using your preferred coffee-making method. If espresso is unavailable, use a strong brewed coffee as a substitute.
- Heat the Half & Half: Pour 7 ounces of half & half into a small saucepan and gently heat over low heat, stirring occasionally. Watch for steam to rise but avoid boiling.
- Froth the Milk: Using a milk frother, froth the warmed half & half for about 30 seconds until it turns creamy and slightly foamy.
- Combine in the Mug: Pour the freshly brewed espresso into the warmed mug. Use a spoon to hold back the foam and slowly add the steamed half & half over the espresso.
- Add the Foam: Spoon the creamy froth onto the top of the latte to create a velvety finish.
- Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle ground cinnamon or cocoa powder on top as desired. Add flavored syrup if using, stir gently, then serve immediately and enjoy your indulgent Breve Latte.
Notes
- Adjust the espresso amount based on your caffeine preference.
- For a dairy-free version, substitute half & half with your favorite plant-based milk and froth accordingly.
- Flavored syrups add a delightful twist but are optional.
- Do not overheat the half & half to avoid scalding and preserve a smooth texture.
- Use freshly ground espresso for the best aroma and flavor.
- You can warm the mug using hot water to keep your latte hotter for longer.
