Ingredients
Scale
Steak and Seasoning
- 2 sirloin steaks (or other thin steaks)
- Salt & pepper (to taste)
- Butter and/or olive oil for cooking the steak (optional, about 1 tablespoon each)
Tortillas
- 10 flour or corn tortillas
Toppings and Garnishes
- 1 shallot, chopped finely
- 2 tablespoons fresh oregano, chopped finely
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped finely
- 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped finely
- Little tomatoes (grape or cherry), sliced to taste
- 1 avocado, sliced
- Arugula, to taste
- Lettuce (butter leaf recommended), to taste
- Sour cream, to taste
- 1 lime, quartered
Instructions
- Warm the Tortillas: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Wrap the tortillas in foil and place them in the oven to warm while you prepare the other ingredients, ensuring soft and pliable tacos.
- Season the Steaks: Pat the sirloin steaks dry and season both sides generously with salt and pepper to enhance their natural flavors.
- Prepare the Toppings: Finely chop the shallot, oregano, parsley, and cilantro. Slice the avocado and grape or cherry tomatoes into smaller, bite-sized pieces for easy topping.
- Cook the Steaks: Heat a cast iron pan or grill over medium-high heat. If desired, add a mixture of about 1 tablespoon each of butter and olive oil to the pan for richness and flavor. Cook the steaks for approximately 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare, adjusting time to your preferred doneness. Let the steaks rest a few minutes before slicing thinly against the grain.
- Assemble the Tacos: Remove warmed tortillas from the oven. Place slices of steak on each tortilla, then add shallots, herbs, tomatoes, avocado, arugula, and butter leaf lettuce as desired. Add a dollop of sour cream and finish with a squeeze of fresh lime juice to brighten the flavors. Serve immediately and enjoy!
Notes
- For extra flavor, marinate the steak briefly with olive oil, garlic, and lime juice before cooking.
- If preferred, substitute corn tortillas for a gluten-free option.
- Adjust the amount of sour cream or omit to reduce fat content.
- Resting the steak after cooking helps retain juices and ensures tenderness.
- Leftover steak can be refrigerated and quickly reheated for another meal.
