Description
This simple and effective freezing avocado recipe helps you preserve ripe avocados for later use. By slicing, optionally treating with lemon juice to prevent browning, and tightly wrapping before freezing, you can enjoy the creamy texture of avocado anytime without waste.
Ingredients
Ingredients
- Ripe avocados (as many as desired)
- Lemon juice (optional, to prevent browning)
- Plastic wrap, freezer bags, or airtight containers (for storage)
Instructions
- Slice the avocado in half: Cut the avocado lengthwise around the pit. Twist the halves to separate and carefully remove the pit with a spoon or knife.
- Apply lemon juice: To keep the avocado flesh from browning during freezing, lightly brush the exposed flesh with lemon juice, covering all surfaces evenly.
- Wrap the avocado halves: Using plastic wrap or parchment paper, tightly wrap each avocado half to minimize air exposure and prevent freezer burn.
- Place in freezer bag: Put the wrapped halves into a freezer-safe plastic bag, then squeeze out as much air as possible before sealing the bag tightly.
- Freeze flat: Lay the sealed bag flat in the freezer to save space and allow the avocado to freeze evenly.
Notes
- Freezing avocados can alter the texture, making them best suited for use in smoothies, guacamole, or spreads rather than fresh salads.
- Lemon juice helps maintain color but can be omitted if not desired; however, browning may occur.
- Use freezer-safe containers or bags specifically designed to prevent freezer burn for best results.
- Thaw frozen avocados in the refrigerator or at room temperature before use, and consume within 1–2 days for optimal freshness.
