Description

This Easy Chicken and Rice Dog Food recipe is a nutritious, homemade meal designed specifically for dogs. Featuring lean chicken, wholesome rice, and fresh vegetables, it’s a simple way to provide your furry friend with a balanced and delicious diet without harmful additives or seasonings.

Ingredients

Scale

Protein

  • 2 pounds boneless skinless chicken breasts or thighs, diced

Grains

  • 1 1/2 cups white rice, uncooked

Vegetables

  • 1 1/2 cups chopped carrots
  • 1 cup frozen peas

Liquids

  • 3 cups water or unsalted chicken broth

Oils

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Cook Chicken: Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the diced chicken and cook for 7 to 10 minutes until fully cooked and no longer pink.
  2. Add Rice and Vegetables: Add the uncooked rice, chopped carrots, and water or unsalted chicken broth to the pot. Stir to combine and bring to a boil.
  3. Simmer: Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed.
  4. Add Peas: Stir in the frozen peas and cook for an additional 5 minutes until warmed through.
  5. Cool and Serve: Remove from heat and let the mixture cool completely before serving to your dog. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or freeze in portions for up to 2 months.

Notes

  • Always consult your veterinarian before changing your dog’s diet.
  • You can substitute sweet potatoes for carrots or use brown rice, but increase cooking time if using brown rice.
  • Avoid adding salt, onions, garlic, or seasonings, as these can be harmful to dogs.
