Description

This Deep-Dish Pizza Pie features a rich and savory ground beef filling cooked with onions and green peppers, layered with a blend of mozzarella and cheddar cheeses, nestled inside a crispy pie crust, and baked until golden and bubbly. Perfect for a hearty and comforting meal that feeds eight.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat and Vegetables

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup green bell pepper, chopped

Sauce and Seasoning

  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce (or marinara sauce)
  • 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Crust and Cheese

  • 1 pre-made pie crust (or homemade)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup sliced pepperoni

Optional Toppings

  • Sliced black olives
  • Mushrooms
  • Any favorite pizza toppings

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the deep-dish pizza pie.
  2. Cook Beef Mixture: In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef along with the chopped onions and green bell peppers until the beef is fully cooked and the vegetables have softened. Drain any excess fat from the skillet.
  3. Add Sauce and Seasoning: Stir in the pizza sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper into the cooked beef mixture. Simmer for a couple of minutes to blend the flavors, then remove from heat.
  4. Prepare Pie Crust: Place the pie crust into a 9-inch pie pan, pressing it firmly against the bottom and sides of the pan to fit properly.
  5. Assemble the Pizza: Spread half of the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the bottom of the pie crust. Spoon the beef and vegetable mixture over the cheese layer. Top this with the remaining mozzarella cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, and arrange the sliced pepperoni on top.
  6. Bake: Bake the assembled pie in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Cool and Serve: Allow the pizza pie to cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm and enjoy your hearty deep-dish pizza pie!

Notes

  • You can customize the pizza with your choice of optional toppings like sliced black olives or mushrooms.
  • Ensure to drain excess fat from the beef to avoid a greasy pie crust.
  • If you prefer, use homemade pizza dough or pie crust in place of pre-made crust.
  • For a spicier flavor, add red pepper flakes into the beef mixture.
  • Letting the pizza cool slightly before slicing helps the cheese set and makes it easier to serve.
