Ingredients
Scale
Fish and Seasoning
- 1 pound haddock fillets
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
Breading
- 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup grated parmesan
- 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
Other Ingredients
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 1 lemon (sliced)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit to ensure it is hot and ready for baking the fish.
- Prepare Haddock: Lay the haddock fillets on a clean surface and pat them dry with paper towels. Season both sides evenly with kosher salt and ground black pepper to enhance the flavor.
- Mix Breading: In a small bowl, combine the panko breadcrumbs, grated parmesan, and Italian seasoning thoroughly to create the breadcrumb mixture.
- Apply Butter: Brush the melted butter on both sides of each haddock fillet to help the breading stick and add richness. Also, brush the remaining butter lightly in the bottom of a baking dish to prevent sticking.
- Coat with Breading: Sprinkle and press both sides of the haddock fillets evenly with the panko breadcrumb mixture, ensuring a good crust will form during baking.
- Bake and Broil: Place the fillets in the baking dish and bake for 7 minutes until the fish begins to cook through. Then switch the oven to broil mode and broil the fish for 1 to 2 minutes or until the breadcrumb crust turns golden brown and crispy, and the fish flakes easily with a fork.
- Serve: Remove the baked haddock from the oven, squeeze fresh lemon juice over the top, and serve immediately to enjoy the bright citrus flavor complementing the crispy fish.
Notes
- Keep a close eye during broiling to prevent burning the breadcrumb crust.
- If you prefer milder seasoning, reduce the Italian seasoning or omit it.
- Panko breadcrumbs provide a lighter, crispier crust than regular breadcrumbs.
- This recipe works well with other white fish fillets like cod or pollock.
- Serve with steamed vegetables or a fresh salad for a balanced meal.
