Ingredients
Scale
Meat Mixture
- 1 pound ground beef
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 pound hot dogs, diced
- A few shakes of Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 2 teaspoons cumin
- 8 ounces tomato sauce
- 8 ounces water (use empty tomato sauce can to measure)
For Serving
- Tortilla chips
- 6 – 8 ounces shredded Cheddar cheese
- Green onions, sliced (optional)
- Sour cream (optional)
Instructions
- Brown the Meat: In a skillet over medium heat, brown and crumble the ground beef along with the diced onion and diced hot dogs. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Cook until the beef is no longer pink. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Add Seasonings and Simmer: Stir in Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, cumin, tomato sauce, and water. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to medium-low. Allow it to simmer, stirring occasionally, until the chili thickens to your desired consistency, similar to Sloppy Joe’s texture.
- Assemble the Nachos: Arrange tortilla chips on a serving plate. Spoon the warm meat chili mixture over the chips evenly. Sprinkle shredded Cheddar cheese on top while the chili is still hot, so the cheese melts slightly.
- Add Toppings and Serve: Garnish with sliced green onions and a dollop of sour cream if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy your Chili Cheese Dog Nachos!
Notes
- You can adjust the chili thickness by simmering longer for a thicker consistency or adding a bit more water for a thinner sauce.
- For added heat, consider adding a dash of cayenne pepper or chopped jalapeños to the meat mixture.
- To make it easier to serve, layer the chips and chili in a large casserole dish and bake briefly to melt the cheese thoroughly.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated on the stovetop or microwave.
