Ingredients
Scale
Chicken and Seasonings
- 1 lb chicken breast
- 2 Tablespoons olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
Alfredo Sauce
- 4 Tablespoons unsalted butter
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup shallots, finely chopped
- 3 Tablespoons flour
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
Other Ingredients
- 1 lb potato gnocchi (uncooked)
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup parmesan cheese, grated
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (218°C) to get it ready for baking the final dish.
- Cook Chicken: Season the chicken breasts with olive oil, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Heat a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat and cook the chicken for 8–10 minutes until it turns golden brown and is cooked through.
- Make Sauce Base: In the same skillet, add butter and sauté the minced garlic and chopped shallots until soft and fragrant, about 2-3 minutes.
- Create Roux and Add Liquids: Stir in the flour to form a roux and cook for about 1-2 minutes to remove raw flour taste. Gradually whisk in chicken broth, milk, and heavy cream, continuing to whisk until the mixture thickens into a creamy sauce.
- Combine Ingredients: Dice the cooked chicken into bite-sized pieces and add it back into the sauce along with the uncooked gnocchi. Stir gently to combine all components evenly in the skillet.
- Add Cheese Topping and Bake: Sprinkle shredded mozzarella and grated parmesan evenly over the top of the skillet mixture. Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 12–15 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
Notes
- Using a cast-iron skillet allows for even cooking and can go directly into the oven, making this recipe streamlined.
- You can substitute mozzarella with fontina or provolone for a different cheese flavor.
- Make sure the chicken is cooked through before adding the sauce ingredients to ensure food safety.
- For an even creamier sauce, add an extra 1/4 cup of heavy cream or parmesan cheese according to taste.
- If you prefer, you can cook the gnocchi briefly before adding to the sauce, but they will cook fully during baking in this recipe.
