Ingredients
Scale
Apples
- 2 large red apples (Honeycrisp or Gala work well)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 cups water
Puff Pastry & Filling
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 2 tablespoons apricot preserves
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Finishing
- Powdered sugar for dusting
- Flour for dusting
Instructions
- Prepare the apples: Slice the apples in half, remove the core and seeds, then cut into very thin half-moon slices to ensure flexibility for shaping.
- Soften the apple slices: Combine lemon juice and water in a microwave-safe bowl, immerse the apple slices, and microwave for about 3 minutes to make the slices bendable without breaking.
- Prepare puff pastry: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet and cut it into 6 even strips for individual roses.
- Make apricot glaze: Mix apricot preserves with a teaspoon of water in a small bowl, then microwave for 30 seconds to achieve a spreadable consistency.
- Apply glaze: Brush the warmed apricot preserves evenly over each puff pastry strip.
- Arrange apple slices: Lay softened apple slices on the top half of each pastry strip, overlapping slightly with the skins protruding above the pastry for a petal effect.
- Add cinnamon: Sprinkle a dash of cinnamon over the apple slices to add warm spice flavor.
- Roll into roses: Fold the bottom half of the pastry over the apples, then carefully roll each strip into a rose shape, making sure the apple slices fan out like petals.
- Set in muffin tin: Place each rolled apple rose into a greased muffin tin cup to maintain its shape during baking.
- Bake: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the apple rose pastries for 40-45 minutes until golden brown and fully cooked through.
- Finish and serve: Allow the pastries to cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar before serving for a beautiful presentation and subtle sweetness.
Notes
- Use thin apple slices to ensure they bend easily without breaking.
- Gala or Honeycrisp apples work best for sweetness and pliability.
- Ensure the puff pastry is properly thawed before rolling to prevent cracking.
- Grease the muffin tin well to prevent sticking.
- Optional: Serve with a dollop of whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for an indulgent treat.
