Description

These Alabama White Blackened Chicken Sliders combine juicy, blackened chicken thighs with a tangy and creamy traditional Alabama white sauce, served on soft slider buns with crisp lettuce and pickles. Perfect for a quick dinner or a flavorful dish to impress at tailgates and gatherings, this recipe offers a delicious southern twist with easy grilling and assembly.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken

  • 1 ½ pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  • 2 tablespoons blackening seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Alabama White Sauce

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon prepared horseradish
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon sugar

Assembly

  • 12 slider buns
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • ½ cup sliced pickles

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare chicken: Preheat your grill or a stovetop pan to medium-high heat. Pat the chicken thighs dry with paper towels to ensure good searing and even seasoning.
  2. Season chicken: Season both sides of the chicken thighs with blackening seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Drizzle the olive oil over the chicken and massage it in to coat well.
  3. Cook chicken: Place the chicken thighs on the grill or in the hot pan. Cook for 5 to 6 minutes per side, allowing a nice char to develop and ensuring the chicken is cooked through.
  4. Make Alabama white sauce: While the chicken cooks, whisk together mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, prepared horseradish, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, and sugar in a bowl. Taste and adjust seasoning as desired.
  5. Rest and slice chicken: Once cooked, transfer the chicken to a cutting board and let it rest for 5 minutes to retain juices. Then slice into strips suitable for sliders.
  6. Toast buns: Optionally, toast the slider buns lightly on the grill or in a pan for added texture and flavor.
  7. Assemble sliders: On the bottom half of each bun, place a layer of shredded lettuce, followed by sliced chicken strips, a generous drizzle of Alabama white sauce, and sliced pickles. Top with the bun halves and serve immediately.

Notes

  • You can substitute chicken breasts if you prefer leaner meat, but thighs yield juicier and more flavorful results.
  • Add a dash of hot sauce to the Alabama white sauce for a spicy variation.
  • These sliders are excellent served cold, making them ideal for picnics, tailgates, or packed lunches.
