Ingredients
Scale
Apples
- 2 medium apples (any variety, such as Fuji or Granny Smith)
Seasoning
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- A pinch of salt (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the apples: Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. Using a mandolin slicer or a sharp knife, slice the apples very thinly, approximately 1/8 inch thick. Remove the core and seeds if desired.
- Make the cinnamon sugar: In a small bowl, combine the granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt if using. Mix well to create the cinnamon sugar coating.
- Coat the apple slices: Lay the apple slices on a clean surface and lightly sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture over both sides of the slices. Alternatively, toss them in a bowl with the mixture to coat evenly.
- Preheat the air fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 3-5 minutes to ensure even and efficient cooking.
- Air fry the apple chips: Arrange the apple slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket, avoiding overlap. Depending on your air fryer’s size, cook in batches if necessary. Air fry for 10-12 minutes, flipping them halfway through cooking. Watch closely toward the end to prevent burning. The chips should be golden brown and crispy.
- Cool and serve: Remove the apple chips from the air fryer and let them cool for a few minutes. They will crisp up further while cooling. Enjoy immediately or store in an airtight container for up to one week.
Notes
- Use a mandolin slicer for even, thin slices that cook uniformly.
- Adjust the sugar and cinnamon quantity to your taste preference.
- Keep a close eye on the chips during air frying as cooking times can vary by model.
- Store your apple chips in an airtight container at room temperature to maintain crispiness.
- If your apples are very juicy, pat them dry before coating to avoid soggy chips.
