Description

A delightful and easy dessert featuring air fried apple wedges coated in cinnamon sugar and cornstarch, served with a luscious caramel whipped cream dipping sauce. This recipe combines the crispness of baked apples with the creamy sweetness of caramel whipped cream, perfect for a cozy fall treat or a healthy snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Apple Wedges

  • 2 large apples (such as Honeycrisp or Fuji, sliced into wedges)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • cooking spray

Caramel Whipped Cream Dipping Sauce

  • 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons caramel sauce (plus extra for drizzling)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • pinch of sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the air fryer: Set the air fryer temperature to 375°F (190°C) and let it preheat while preparing the apples to ensure even cooking.
  2. Prepare the apple wedges: In a large bowl, toss the sliced apple wedges with 1 tablespoon of lemon juice to prevent browning and preserve freshness.
  3. Coat the apples: In a separate small bowl, mix together 2 tablespoons granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, and 1 tablespoon cornstarch. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the apple wedges and toss until each wedge is well coated.
  4. Arrange and air fry: Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray to prevent sticking. Arrange the coated apple wedges in a single layer inside the basket to allow even air circulation. Air fry for 10 to 12 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through cooking to ensure all sides crisp up, until apples are tender and slightly crispy on the edges.
  5. Make the caramel whipped cream dipping sauce: While the apples cook, chill a mixing bowl and beaters. Whip 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream until soft peaks form. Gently fold in 2 tablespoons caramel sauce, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and a pinch of sea salt. Continue whipping until the mixture is light, fluffy, and well combined.
  6. Serve: Plate the warm apple wedges alongside a bowl of caramel whipped cream for dipping. Optionally, drizzle extra caramel sauce over the apple wedges for added sweetness and presentation.

Notes

  • Use any firm, sweet-tart apple variety such as Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Granny Smith for the best texture and flavor.
  • The caramel whipped cream dipping sauce can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated for up to 24 hours; whip again briefly before serving if needed.
  • For a dairy-free version, substitute coconut whipped cream and dairy-free caramel sauce.
